The term “Sachverständiger” (“expert”) as such is an unprotected term, which anybody is allowed to use.

A swearing-in in terms of the directory of experts (as issued by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry CCI and district administrations respectively) is only effected if the applicant can prove having acquired expert knowledge and practical experiences above average. This ensures that courts, public authorities and the public are provided with particularly skilled and personally apt experts.
